(3,697 posts)But this was straight news coverage of a disaster. No reason to spin it and there was no evidence of a slant to it. They do still have good straight news reporters.
The state OEM seems to me to be trying to redirect attention away from any possible state failures to blame things on the National Weather System. Why else would they say the WEDNESDAY warnings were for a mere 3-6 inches? What about Thursday warnings?
Were they asleep? Vacationing? Governor Abbott is usually the one giving press conferences in the immediate aftermath of an emergency. Instead it was Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick speaking as the Acting Governor. So Abbott almost certainly was on vacation on the 4th.
Did they take a chance on public safety by not funding an early warning system for the Guadalupe River?
Something does not seem right.
Remember the many problems with the state's response to Uvalde and their self-laudatory press conference afterward that turned out to be a sham.
