My wife called me the afternoon it happened. It was far down the list of topics. She doesn't follow politics that much until election. She did not know who he was. She asked me and even I botched up the answer. A little later I went into the break room and the story was unfolding on the TV there. Again, one of my coworkers heard the name but didn't know who he was.
I think many are in the same boat which begs the question why are so many sports stadiums. Paying tribute? He was not well known last week at this time.
