When health care is not tied to employment, it encourages people to start their own businesses. Small businesses don't have to choose between offering prospective employees a competitive wage or a health insurance package. People don't have to defer health care because they can't afford it, leading to more sickness, more absenteeism, and decreased production.

People love to deride France's laid-back work culture, and long, out-of-the-office lunches. But the World Health Organization dubbed France's the most productive workforce in the world. But try to get American CEO's with their "you need to work harder for my wealth" worldview to understand that.
