2. "...there be other plans afoot?"

President Trump just tore down an historic part of one of the most iconic buildings in the US.

Without asking anyone's permission or opinion.

And no one stopped him. Most of his supporters even support his egregious destruction of US history.

Trump is pushing the limits because pushing the limits shows his power, therefore increasing his power, solidifying his power.

If a Democratic president had so much as taken a hammer out of their pocket and put a scratch on one of the columns, politicians of both parties, in both houses, the entire media, and people across the country would have been apoplectic.

Yet Trump, apparently on a whim, has an entire section of the White House demolished. No bidding process, no permission asked, no historic societies consulted, no real planning process. Just his whim.

And no one stopped him.
What do people respect? People respect power. How do people know that a Strong Leader is powerful? They know when they see it. They know it in their guts.
What can't such a powerful Strong Leader do?

This is how authoritarianism works. It's like when Reagan knocked over Grenada to get the US feeling good about ourselves after losing the fight in Viet Nam. It's like when General Jacob H. Smith pacified Samar.
