(626 posts)Can't find it now but it described a recommended parenting technique that, if commonly used in evangelical households, would explain why so many can be sucked in by the current regime.
It said to place the child in the middle of a small blanket on the floor and tell them to stay on the blanket. Then hold up a favorite toy or a favorite snack food and encourage the child to crawl towards it. When the child crawls off the blanket trying to reach the offered toy, yell at them and hit them and tell them they were told to stay on the blanket.
How could a person possibly grow up to think for themselves (or to trust anyone) after that kind of cruel conditioning?
It just seemed to me that this kind of upbringing could help explain why we have such a huge number of authoritarians in our current population.
