that this was not a major award by some prestigious organization. It was evidently recognition awarded by her small school one year. Nonetheless it is a terrible situation and that does reflect on the judgment and character one might find in these small Christian schools.

And it is certainly reasonable to ask the school if they have documented policies and standards of behavior by teachers with regard to corporal punishment.
