(56,827 posts)They didn't like Bush in 2004, but ended up voting for him in the end because Fox News, RW Talk Radio and much of the rest of the media had so successfully demonized John Kerry that they were afraid NOT to vote for Bush. I suspect that it will be the same with Hillary Clinton - the RW has so ginned up fear of her for decades that *some* Republicans will vote for Trump just out of fear for another President Clinton.
Republicans also specialize in getting the single issue voters - guns, abortion, gay marriage, etc: The day after the 2004 election, I had an appointment with a podiatrist. On the surface, you would think he would be a reliable Democrat - fairly young, Jewish and living in a blue state. However, he voted Bush because he hated trial lawyers and John Edwards was a trial lawyer. He even admitted that Iraq was a mistake at that appointment and that he disagreed with almost all of Bush's politics.
Similarly - I also had a friend that probably agreed with Democrats on every social issue, but always voted Republicans because he was also really into his guns and Democrats are the party of taking away his guns. (He recently passed away in his mid 40s due to health issues that may have been stopped with earlier access to good health insurance...so, he was voting against his own interests because of that one issues on guns.)
