I think that Corker might well have been referring to Hillary Clinton and the top military brass.

He knows that Hillary can run intellectual rings around every Republican member of his committee, and can embarrass the hell out of them a lot worse than they could ever do to her. She isn't (presently) a candidate for anything and is retired from the Senate and the State Department. These hearings serve no other purpose than to harm the administration. Republicans are usually chicken hawks who "support the troops" as long as they don't have to join them. So they "respect" the military, especially the southerners among them, who come from economically depressed states where the military is often the only alternative to unemployment. So they won't want to seem as disrespectful to Generals, and can't do anything to Hillary, who at this point is nothing other than a civilian.

So as not to be seen as boors and bullies, I think Corker wants his fellow Republicans not to step into the trap of charging, all guns blazing, into a battle where the only enemy present is the one they see in the mirror. He probably senses a potential trap here, and is issuing a coded warning to fellow Republicans not to step into it. Considering who his fellow Republicans are, I think they will not only NOT avoid stepping into it, I think they'll charge right in, full speed ahead.
