I know well about the history - from the start - when Hitler was commanded to check it up - he was at the moment a spy for the counterintelligence in the German military, because of his antics when it come to being a nationalist - who feared the communist and the socialists more than everything - as many of the conservative striped did after the chaotic revolution in 1918.....
And as you pointed out - it took Hitler, and the then NSDAP 13 years to build up a party, who was given power by the Powers to be - because no one was able, or willing to govern Germany effectively... The economical chaos of the mid 1930s also made it possible for many, many millions of other vice nice and gentle germans to want a strong man who could turn the tide - and made germany whole again.. And it was that Hitler promised - to make Germany whole again - and to let their enemies pay the price for the last war...
Stalin was a nasty man - no doubt about it - and the mass slaughters he did - from the 1920s to he died in the 1950s was nasty - and he was absolutely one of the worst leaders the USSR ever had - and his dominance of Eastern Europe is still pretty clear in most of Eastern Europe - who for the most part is poorer than then western part... And as I said - Eastern Europe was dominated by Stalin - the Western was free - mostly thanks to the help Western Europe was given by the US after the war - The Marshall plan gave Europe - at least the Western part a life line when it was needed...
The world have experienced a lot - many horrible leaders - many murderers - many who never was given accountability for their crimes - but Hitler and Stalin I would say was in their own league, when it come to murders and wars...
The scary part - as you pointed out - that the US do have their own sect, who have some of the same aspect as many germans had in 1933..... Ready to do the bidding of the "strong man" if he ever was made posible... And that scares the jebus out of me - mostly becouse the US have today the tools to make posible a horrible dictator - the patriot act alone have many of the same tools as the "emergency acts to protect the german Reich and State"...
