In reply to the discussion: What should Lebron James do now? [View all]Algernon Moncrieff

Say 5% with an option to buy 5% more. That's the only way I see him staying.
He's a horrible GM.
Eh... I'm not sure that's 100% true. I think he really was blindsided by the Kyrie Irving departure, and then he and the Cavs were grasping at straws to make a workable team. But he's not Pat Riley putting together a Bosh/Wade/James type trio in Cleveland.
He's been playing what...15 years, right? You think he'll play twenty? I don't.
Normally, I'd agree; however, he's performing at an extraordinarily high level for this point in his career.
My opinion is that he needs to somehow get himself to a situation where they can set him up for an Elway-type career dismount: win, win, and retire.
There are two types of scenarios here: one is another Heat-type trio deal, and Houston seems to be the most likely landing point. Harden/Paul/James could work together and finally create a team in the West that can beat Golden State. The second scenario reminds me of a different Miami Heat story - when aging (but still formidable) Shaq left LA to go play with Dwayne Wade. Lebron could do this in Philly with Ben Simmons or LA with Lonzo Ball. LA might have the edge since they have cap room, and also Paul George has indicated his desire to play there.
At this point, I think he's like late-career Jordan; he needs two pieces (a Pippen and a Rodman) to make championship run. I'm just not seeing how that happens in Cleveland.
San Antonio? Maybe. Pop's a coaching genius, and I could see Lebron wanting to work with him and learn from him. Golden State? Unless they were to shed pieces as part of the deal, I think Adam Silver would nix that move because nobody could realistically compete with that team. If'd be the NBA all-stars, every night. But it'd be a blast to watch.

Hard to beat a team that starts five All Stars at or near their prime.
