an airplane landing light! It's overcast today but I see it most mornings as it rises over the mountains, pretty spectacular.

When it's still dark and before you can see Venus, Mars is a bit higher and off to the south (right) of where Venus comes up. In about ten days you can start seeing the moon approaching and passing by as it nears the sun to start a new cycle. Somewhere, before long I think, Jupiter will show up somewhere in the line up.
