http://www.politico.com/click/stories/0910/couric_to_sit_with_kerry_mccain_.htmlMonday night, CBS kicks off “Afghanistan: The Road Ahead,” a three-day series that will consume more than half of each night’s evening newscast.
“A ton of elbow grease and resources have gone into this,” anchor Katie Couric said of the network’s ambitious project, which also runs on “The Early Show,” CBS Radio News and CBSNews.com.
Couric says that although Tuesday marks the eight-year anniversary of the U.S. military presence in Afghanistan, the media’s coverage of the war has been inconsistent, largely overshadowed by the war in Iraq. Now the network has “an opportunity to provide a real public service” when it comes to the pivotal issues of counterinsurgency strategy and troop strength in the region.

Couric traveled to Afghanistan with Defense Secretary Robert Gates in May for a profile on “60 Minutes.” There, flying over poppy fields and meeting with soldiers, she said, offered more perspective on the difficulties for the military and in building infrastructure for the Afghan people. “How in God’s name will they be able to accomplish this?” she said.
Of course, there are no easy answers. So this week, Couric will sit down with Sens. John Kerry (D-Mass.) and John McCain (R-Ariz.), and as they were in last year’s Presidential Questions series, they’ll be asked the same questions, with their responses running side by side.
Can you tell from this article WHEN this might be on? Our local CBS has the Evening News running from only 6:30-7, does that seem like when they might show it? Help!
