The public wants the trash, the nets need to sell ads, so they pimp the trash.

At the same time, the reason the regime "leans" on the media to downplay certain issues is because if the media gave, for example, the same kind of attention to US troops casualties, the reluctance of the bush regime to have the 911 events looked into, Halliburton's profits vs what the directors of homeless shelters in 4 or 5 major cities have to say, the US sections of Amnesty International or HRW reports, and zog zog zog, those things would become every bit as much a hot water cooler and dinner table topic as the Single Hair.

This reminds me of conversations about higher expectations and higher achievement in the classroom :)
