7. The last thing Powell wants is for
Edited on Sat Nov-08-03 12:26 PM by cliss
the "rebels" to be identified. I believe that they are Iraqis. The administration will go to great lengths to portray them as Syrians, or Al-Qaida, or Ansar-Al-Islam. The truth is, they're a little closer to home. Bush needs to justify the war, and he cannot do that if the resistance fighters are identified as Iraqis. They are "foreign elements at work", or some other outside source.

Because, you see, we are here to liberate them. Notice, before the war, we were liberating them from Saddam. Now, we're liberating them from the foreign insurgents. It's a huge driving force, made for domestic consumption, to have an identified "bad guy" that the American public will swallow, and direct their anger towards, to justify their actions.

It's a Enemy-of-the-month club. Sorry, I can't take credit for that, read it at Counterpunch.

Anyway, it's awesome when the media does its job. This week, Bush made some comment about Saddam. Oh yes! The insurgents are Saddam loyalists. "There are a lot of - I mean, a few who want to see him succeed". This was an actual quote. He started to say a lot of people, then corrected himself and made his own "edit".
