Otherwise, prosecutor Fitzgerald would have prosecuted Rove on perjury. His stories on the Valerie Plame leak case were proved to be lies and he was in jeopardy for prosecution. Fitzgerald decided to cut Rove some slack so that he could convict VP Cheney's chief of staff.

Did I get that right?
