148. I really get tired of hearing about goddess Diana and how Charles destroyed her.

The truth is that Diana had some monumental problems before she even met Charles. Charles, having been seriously emotionally neglected as a child was not equipped to deal with her problems. Diana was ill equiped to deal with the expectations of her chosen life.

And Charles did not chose her. She was chosen for him. He was forced into that marriage.

The real culprits were Elizabeth and Phillip. She never hugged or held Charles when he was a child. When they met, she shook his hand because she did not feel it was appropriate to show affection for her two older children. Phillip is said to have ruled his children with an iron hand and that Charles was afraid of him.

If Diana was treated as a brood mare, Charles was treated like a stud stallion.

No one doubts that Diana loved their children. But guess what? Charles loves their children, too. The two boys always seemed to enjoy their father just as much as their mother. And the feeling was obviously mutual.

Having lived through many years of anger, backbiting, and court battles that followed my husband's divorce from his first wife, I know that, eventually, with time, age, maturity, and distance, the animosity dies and sometimes friendship ensues. After all, both parties usually really do love their children and that is bond that is very strong.

Diana, tragically did not live long enough to gain the time, age, maturity, and distance needed to allow the anger and hurt to disapate sufficiently so they could let the past go.

No one really knows another couple's marriage from the outside. We've heard her story and his story. But the truth is probably something similar and quite different from their views.

Diana is dead. Let her rest. Charles is human and not an ogre.
