make W. more difficult to beat, that's for sure, both because of the positive political valence McCain would bring and because the loss of Cheney's negatives. PLUS, I'm betting it was Cheney who made sure the CIA gave W. only what W. wanted to hear about WMDs and the al-Quaeda link to Saddam.

The only factor that militates against Bush dumping Cheney is W.'s well known loyalty (croney-culture's highest virture). Perhaps Cheney also helps him with the far right voter.
