more people, more demand on the infrastructure, less access to medical care, engineer's homes replaced by gas stations...

Did you just write a picture of the United States? This post makes it sounds like you are a writer despite what you said about high school.

The rezoning of your parent's home might not be pretty but it might help stop a potential drop in value (fairly widespread these days), so good for them.

Btw, how was the motorcycle shop? Haven't ridden in many years, but gas goes up a bit more and gets some drivers off the road I might start again.
