Five weeks after her loss for governor, state Auditor Claire McCaskill says she's already focusing on 2006, when she plans to seek election to a third term as state auditor.

As she starts to raise money for that effort, McCaskill and her family have made one decision: She won't use any new contributions to repay the $1.6 million that she and her husband lent her failed Democratic bid for governor. The couple will wait until at least 2007.

By then, McCaskill also will have decided whether to try again for governor. But there already are strong signs that she'll have at least one Democratic rival, and it may well be Attorney General Jay Nixon.
