Her parents were very working class. She went to Michigan State where she played folk guitar in cafes. She got an MSW. She and her husband lived in some small community in Michigan. Her husband ran for a county office (?) and lost. Soon after that, the county was going to cut funding for the retirement home Stabenow's mother lived in. So Stabenow ran for the county board that made that decision and won. She made sure that the home stayed funded.

Today she is a Senator.

She's exactly the kind of person any American should want to be his or her elected representative.
