After 9/11, my school decided to get more student involvement with the pledge...so we'd have pledge leaders (read: preppy kids) to "lead" us in the pledge. I finally snapped and in my senior year of high school, I stopped joining in.

Nowadays, if I go to an event that says the pledge at the beginning, I either stand up and do nothing, or I say the pledge, cutting out "under God" (I'm Jewish-Athiest).
