8. Fritz Hollings spent 42 years in the US Senate; most as SCs "Jr. Senator".
Hollings didn't become the "Senior Senator" from SC until Strom Thurmond retired in 2002 (and Lindsey Graham was elected). Hollings wasn't perfect. But at least he was honest about his vote against Thurgood Marshall. He was right too. He never would have been re-elected. Marshall was confirmed and Fritz lived (politically) to fight many good fights.

Hollings spent 40 years as "Junior Senator"; Graham spent two. Graham is now SCs "Senior Senator", with Jim DeMint-ed the new "Junior" (won Hollings' seat). SC finally has what it deserves. How many more job losses and native sons and daughters lost in Iraq will it take for these backwoods fools to wake up?
