Or at least that was the burden of some research done in the late '70s.

The researchers hypothesised that men above a certain level of social class tend to get more wealthy with age, and therefore more conservative.

Whereas women tend to grow more poor, but also shed the personal responsibility for children that makes us cautious when younger. So we have less to lose, and become more free to take risks. And the risks we take tend to be in aid of social justice.
