SUPPORTING FREE SPEECH: Regardless of their political leanings, nearly all respondents in an AP-Ipsos poll believe in the First Amendment right to publicly criticize the war in Iraq.

POSITIVE FRONT: Sixty percent of respondents say American troops should remain until Iraq is stable, a figure that has not changed significantly despite a well-publicized anti-war protest by the mother of a dead soldier, Cindy Sheehan.

NEGATIVE ATTITUDE: More than half of those polled believe the U.S. erred in going to war with Iraq, and half believe the occupation has increased the risk of terrorism.
