it would explain what he was doing with pain pills to begin with. However, having said that, I know several men who have had back operations (and that is another subject that pisses me off) and they aren't addicted to pain pills, screaming at others with the same problem, or being lying AWOL, cyst infected gasbags.

My theory when he 'lost his hearing' was that he just got tired of listening to his own lies. Perhaps that's the real reason he's a junkie.
