I've never understood why Rush fans don't take him at his own word. Over eight years ago (prior to his back problems), Rush declared on his show that he was a "born-again Christian". He has talked about that several times since though not frequently. If you analyze the timeline objectively, you will see that at the time of the back surgery Rush was into heavy food worship. This is factual and cannot be twisted any other way. At the time his weight fluctuated between 340 and 370 (classified as morbid obesity). Rush had chosen a lifestyle of complete immersion in high-fat food gluttony. This is a severe sin in the Christian world as the consequences are severe damage to the holy vessel.

Throughout this period Rush also bragged on his show how he hated any type of physical exercise. He talked about this frequently when he first got to NYC. This was before he took up golf. Anyways I could go on and on. Rush violated his sacred marriage vows two times. He consciously chose to forsake his vows to God about the sacred institution of marriage. Anyways, back to worshipping food as a God. The laws of physics come into play when you are morbidly obese as Rush was. The leverage and stress caused by his extreme belly diameter and girth caused damage to his spinal tissue. That was all a direct result of him embracing a 'deathstyle' after declaring himself 'born-again'.

To make a long story short, Christians reserve a special judgement for those that hide behind religion and use it hypocritically. However Rush got involved in purchasing huge amounts of illegal drugs from black market dealers and supporting the terrorists, we should never ignore the sinful choices he made that got him there. It is pointless to debate why Rush fealt the need to commit those thousands of felonies unless you first admit the horrifying choices he made far before that.
