38. Jessica Lynch was a REMF

REMF = Rear Echelon Mother Fucker. A service-support troop.

She was a supply clerk in a maintenance company. Maintenance companies are not front-line combat units; if her convoy wouldn't have taken a wrong turn and driven right into an Iraqi unit, you would have never heard of Jessica, or her roommate Lori, or the 507th Maintenance Company. Which is as it should be.
