So, DU Psychologists, etc

I'm watching Tru Calling on Fox and the female lead keeps referring to the DSM-III. The DSM, if I'm not misunderinformed is now the DSM-IV, with a DSM-IIIR in between.

Why would they do that? Is it because they just read a brief description of one of the personality disorders? Is it a copyright issue or what? It snot like the DSM-III is in public Domain.
