Will is correct. Me, I couldn't understand why matcom was so certain it wouldn't happen-- it's so consistent with the MO of a so-called political party that so prominently disdains the parliamentary process.

On edit, now that I've read the entire thread: matcom's justification is fair, which to me means the issue isn't settled. The repukes brought it up, and got squashed about it as they so prominently deserve (may it be a harbinger of many such occasions), but since they can count votes and noses as well as the next guy, they knew going in that they were going to lose-- and it is their intention to use this loss to fluff their theocrat base. So the ultimate resolution of the bet hinges on (1) whether the religious community embraces this sort of posturing or rejects it in favor of more nuanced (or pragmatic) positions, and (2) who wins in November.

Or we could drop the whole thing and just eat the dog already.
