It mostly happens in the summer when the moon runs low against the horizon when it's full, and when there are fires in the region. While this is normally a red moon when it is rising, when it reaches a higher point in it's trajectory it can appear light blue to an observer.
I'm gonna look tonight, because we do have fire smoke in the air around our region right now, the sun came up blood red this morning.
I know there is more than one definition of what a "blue moon" actually is, but tonight's may be a DOUBLE blue!
