In Arizona (where most of my experimentation took place) the quality of most narcotics you can find is quite crappy, and the high-quality drugs usually come from the west coast or somewhere else very far away.

Smoking opium was nice, and felt good, about as intense as a high from weed, but different in its own way. It didn't knock me flat, and I could still function. So I'm not surprised that it's not the killer dope I was smoking; on the other hand, since alcoholism/addictive personalities are an issue on my paternal side, I could've easily become an addict had I indulged in high-quality opium.

My main point is that it weed, at least, and maybe even all drugs should be legal for responsible adults to use, but I wouldn't advocate drug use to anyone, and I don't miss it.
