9. that's right...
most people make the mistake of eating the astringent varieties when they are under ripe-and an under ripe persimmon is horrible. They should be mushy and soft..but people seem to think they've spoiled at that point.
When my husband was in the Marines and stationed at Camp Pendelton, we met this lady who grew persimmons on her property, that's how we were introduced to them. She would bake them into this incredible pudding and serve it with brandy sauce..drool.
Anyway, the "persimmon pickings" have been pretty slim since we moved back to Iowa. :cry:
