Do you have a collection that is now worthless because of the economy?

Anybody here collect something, just for the sheer happiness and passion, and the collection actually was worth a lot, and you suddenly realized that because of the economy, people could care less if you have signed First Editions of prize-winning novels or sealed copies of Madonna's sex book, or rare Star Wars items or props from Lord of the Rings or Batman, or whatever your particular passion happens to be?

Nobody cares. Nobody can afford it. The world is probably coming to an end. Who has time to read or collect?

And paintings? Swell. I have a book of Jackson Pollock's greatest works; who needs to buy the original? Who has time to worry about how to ship and receive it? Jasper Johns? Warhol? Longo?

There are way, way bigger concerns right now.

It just goes to show that collecting is one of the more precarious and risky hobbies one can have. I'm guessing it's only a matter of time before the auction houses like Sotherbys declare bankruptcy, because people are not even bidding on once sought-after paintings anymore.

How times change, and how quickly.
