The pastor himself murdered the girl, stashed the body with some phony Satanist props, then waited for the body to be found. When the body WASN'T found, he came up with the idea of claiming a "vision" led him to the crime scene.

He could have done it to cover up his own sexual crimes, or even as a recruitment drive for his church. After all, if he can make it seem like a "coven" of Satanists is operating in his town, he will surely get more people coming to church to receive his "protection".
