...he's more of a bureaucrat than a politician. And I know that term has been vilified a bit, but bureaucrats like O'Neil and Clarke are just trying to do the jobs they have been hired to do. Because they are under a Republican administration, they just get lumped with the Republican politics-minded idealogues (sp) that they work under.

Personally, I was very impressed by what I saw of O'Neils appearance on the Daily Show. And I would venture to guess that there are a lot more Republican bureaucrats out there like him, who are becoming increasingly disenchanted with the fact that their boss is ignoring the people like them who still have some grasp on reality while only paying attention to guys like Rumsfeld and Wolfowitz. Being constantly undermined by less experienced, fiercely ideological hacks has got to wear you down. And that's what O'Neil looked like. Worn down.
