Did he make a gaffe? - yes. Do we have any candidate who never did? - no. Is he a different person today than yesterday? no. Can he recover - I think so. I think that before this, he needed to make his work with veterans better known - now it's even more important and thus more likely to be done.
He has been there for them - since he first advocated for veterans in 1969 when he returned to the US (before he COULD protest the war itself.)
