But as wildly partisan as we tend to be here, I doubt that there's a group of Democrats anywhere who are more cognizant of differences within the party than the people here. The disagreements between various factions are played out daily, and sometimes very vehemently, on DU.

And I take issue with the canard that the Dems attained majorities because they ran to the center, which I think is what you're suggesting.

The 50 state strategy implies that not all Democratic candidates are equally progressive, with a lot of the variation falling on regional lines. What amazes me is why no-one ever mentions that the Republicans have to do things the same way; any national party does. Chafee is not Allen is not Snowe is not McCain is not Hatch, etc. Nothing useful can be inferred from the idea that Democrats ran candidates ranging from near-Conservative to near-Socialist. It is what it is, and has no hidden meaning or lesson of any consequence.
