Gov. Bob Taft was not telling the truth when he claimed he was unaware that Republican Party fund-raiser Tom Noe managed the Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation's coin funds, Noe's lawyer, William Wilkinson, said Sunday.

To the contrary, Wilkinson said Taft, senior members of his administration, and others in the public and private sectors were aware that Maumee rare-coin dealer Noe managed BWC's coin investments.

During a news conference Aug. 18 after he was convicted of four misdemeanors and fined $4,000 for breaking state ethics laws, Taft said, "We didn't know who Tom Noe really was."
