8. Speaking from personal experience...
When my wife and I were first married and living in an apartment complex, our building burned down. We didn't have much money. The Red Cross put us up in a hotel for a week and paid for our meals.

I was eternally grateful and vowed that whenever I could afford to give to charities, the Red Cross would be right up there on my list. I have since made good on that vow.

To me, the Red Cross was a lifesaver when I really needed help.
