16. 2000 Florida/Schiavo
Senator--

"It could even be that the Shaivo case is echoing the Coup of 2000 in people's guts. What with the neofascists completely disregarding the law, courts, and people of Florida to force the outcome their big donors demand (again)."

I've been thinking the same thing. The similarities between the methods used in both cases inevitably tie them together in many voters' minds--except that this time the Supremes at least had the sense to stay out of it. 'once burned, twice shy'

I also think many Americans are subconsciously afraid to admit to themselves that elections could be stolen in this country--we're supposed to be the shining emblem of Democracy, aren't we? I think many, too, have absorbed the Bush inspired threat against dissenters, and are afraid to speak out. This is another reason that Civics classes should be put back in our national educational ciriculum and made a mandetory study course.
