The iodine is a "permanent" solution but it often kills the thyroid dead, dead, dead so you end up treating for hypothyroidism. The disadvantage of the pills is that they can be hard on an animal's system, but that's usually only true for elderly pets. Since Blue is young, that's not an issue. And it may be that even if Blue is hyper that it will be transitory -- there's a type of autoimmune hypothyroidism that begins with a hyper phase. I'm sure your vet can tell you what's going on after the bloodwork comes back.
