Frankly, the part of the Madsen piece that seemed flukiest to me was the suggestion that they would risk drawing attention to themselves by using the "Five Star" name for a variety of otherwise unrelated operations. It's possible that they would muddy the waters by trying to confuse things with a scam operation like Horn's, but I really can't see them publicly displaying a connection with an apparently legitimate New York gold refiner.

Also, any place that is in the business of melting down old dental crowns just doesn't seem like a likely suspect . . .
