Dear Senator Levin,

I am one of many who are very disturbed to hear about reports of voter disenfranchisement and suppression that happened during the 2004 election across America and particularly Ohio.

Free and fair elections are crucial tenet to our democracy. How can our country tout our democratic principles to the world when we ourselves are subject to doubts about our election system?

From the reports I've seen about Ohio, it seems our precious advances in civil rights have been set back 50 years! The evidence from Ohio and other parts of the country shows there WERE NOT free and fair elections. This evidence goes back 4 years ago to the 2000 elections. When the counting of the electors was in progress then, several representatives (african americans, may I remind you) contested. Where were the senators to join?

This time, again, there is an opportunity to stand up against the eroding of our democracy. Representative John Conyers, among others, has spearheaded investigations into the 2004 elections. He has now publicly stated that he will object to counting of the electors in order to foster debate in both houses and he has forwarded an invitation to you and others to join. It is your patriotic duty, sir, to stand and object with Congressman Conyers.

A line has been drawn.

And I and many others will be watching to see who does what.

Sincerely,

one to stabenow also...

I helped petition to get Carl Levin on the ballot. I like him. He's been fighting to get at the truth behind Iraq, etc, leading senate intelligence committee. He hates Bush.
