R.J. McKay wanted to make a statement when he applied to have his group, Diversity Dayton, participate in the Kettering Holiday at Home parade.

McKay said Diversity Dayton represents those in the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered community and he "wanted to show that Dayton has this community and that we're basically everyday citizens. We're not going to be dressed in shiny club shirts or tight-fitting clothes."

Tate and the other parade organizers see it differently.

"We are an independent entity from the city of Kettering," Tate said. "Basically, we can pick and choose who we want in the parade."

In other words, we can discriminate all we want and you can go screw yourself
