3. Solaris is primarily a server-side OS for corporate use
They do have a desktop version but it's seldom used and gets very little development time from Sun.

If you want to go with a *nix (Solaris is the Sun version of UNIX) operating system, there are many Linux distros that will provide you the same stability with a lot more features, since most Linux desktops are really designed to be home user friendly.
