92. I Ain't No Psychologist!
BUT, It seems to me that there is alot more going on here than just closeted homosexuality. I hear the term "self-hating" and I think this may be a key to understanding the current phenomena.

I think many of these right-wing nutjobs who have homosexual relations are even more screwed up than we give them credit for. A homosexual, I imagine, is drawn to a person of the same sex out of attraction or lust or passion in the same way a heterosexual would feel - it feels natural and right and good. These hard-right hypocrites, on the other hand, appear to be drawn to or excited by the fact that, in their "culture", such relations are considered taboo, and they risk all if they so engage.

The point being, that a normal homosexual relationship is based on fairly normal impulses, whereas these strange fellows cropping up in Repudlican ranks just seem to need to grab on to that live wire presented by the taboo act. So Foley is not just gay, he seduces fairly young boys, and at the same time is hanging with John Walsh and the center for Missing and Exploited Children - talk about high stakes! And this latest story - do you think Teddy ever stayed up late night wondering whether or when he'd be found out? Hell yes - I bet the thought that he might be exposed made it all the more exciting. These guys are a different breed - they have it all turned upside down, inside out...

It fits with stories I have heard about clubs like Skull and Bones - the homoerotic rituals and rites of passage therein celebrate not healthy attraction and honest relationships, but perverse obsessions.
