4. Salmon are an extremely healthy resource except along CA, Or and WA coast
It is the damming of major rivers that have caused problems in the salmon industry. They try and claim it is because of over fishing but Alaska has over a hundred times the fishing effort but no dams on any of their rivers and their salmon stocks are listed as extremely healthy. Notice not just healthy but extremely healthy. In the mid to late 70's Alaska had some problems with their salmon industry and over fishing so they instituted a program called Limited Entry. In those days a record harvest of salmon was about fifty million salmon. Since the eighties that level has never been reached. In fact the harvest levels have not gone under a hundred million and in most years between two hundred million and four hundred million are harvested. There is virtually no mercury to be found in wild salmon but plenty of omega 3 which is now being considered a miricle drug of sorts. If you want good health eat plenty of wild salmon especially from the pristeen waters of Alaska.
