It was a show trial by a government that's a long ways from establishing any form of legitimacy. This is no different from the actions of Robespierre or the Bolsheviks in their regicidal moments. To have any meaning, the trial should have been delayed until the US could leave, or else it should have been tried by an internationally recognized world court.

And you're right, it will only bring about more blood. WHich is what BushCo wants--unrest justifies his use of force, and makes it harder to get us out of there. Bush has no intention of leaving--his only goal in Iraq was the occupation, not the establishment of a free government. As stupid as he and Cheney are, even they understand that a free Iraq will be more anti-American than Hussein.
