Just wondering......

A few years ago, there was a guy on local radio who proclaimed himself a grammar maven and solicited calls from people. He himself kept saying, "the reason is BECAUSE, the reason is BECAUSE". In our house, you were corrected if you said that because it's redundant. We were told to say the reason is THAT. I called in and corrected him, and he refused to acknowledge his error.

Another one that gets me is buying a home. You buy a HOUSE. You MAKE it a home. You cannot buy a HOME.

My boyfriend's mother always used to say "the cake is done. You are FINISHED".
