4. Your assertion has a frightening plausibility to it, but in my bones and
blood I believe military commanders will suggest to the idiot president and his malevolent veep and Sec. of Defense that the military option with Iran, even fueled by the fib of "the greater war on terror," is an untenable commitment, and that the military, geo-political, and ethical fallout would be anywhere from 'very significant' to 'possibly catastrophic.'

U.S. foreign policy has sucked for a long time. Under Bush 2, it's sucked more fiercely than ever before. An assault, even a "limited" assault on Iranian "nuclear sites," would make negotiations in other parts of the world all that more difficult, not that they aren't difficult enough already.

Members of his own party might not support Bush this time, this being an election year, and they being craven opportunists concerned with their own political chances down the road.

The moron fundies who thought Bush was Jesus come to deliver them an uncontested Israel and bury homosexuals alive might hold numerous press conferences condemning the pointless violence and anti-Christian aggression Bush has undertaken.

The risks are high.

But as I say, your assertion has a frightening plausibility, given the ego-driven bully-brained assholes in this current administration.
